Dean Smith

Commissioner Dean Smith was elected in November 2008. He is a graduate of Elba High School and graduated from Troy State University with a B.S. in Business Management. He spent seven years in the garment industry as an industrial engineer and retired after twenty-two years of service with Shell Oil as an operations specialist

Commissioner Smith is married to Pamela, a teacher who has worked in the Elba City School system for twenty-eight years. They have two children, Dusty Smith and Dina Smith Matthews, and two wonderful granddaughters. The Smiths are members of Whitewater Baptist Church where he serves as deacon.

Commissioner Smith enjoys raising Brangus cattle, deer hunting, and taking his wife to fish for mullet.

Kim Ellis

Commissioner Kim Ellis, elected in November 2008, is a 1982 graduate of Zion Chapel High School.  He received certification from Spartan School in Maumee, Ohio as a chemical specialist and certification from NSS in Toledo, Ohio as a mechanical technician.

Commissioner Ellis is married to Denise; they have three children - Brandy (married to Stephen), Joshua, and Caleb - and one grandson, Jaxson.

Commissioner Ellis is family oriented and loves to spend time with his boys hunting, fishing, and watching Alabama football.  He is also a gifted woodcrafter.

Robert Stephens

Commissioner Robert Stephens has been a commissioner since 1985 and brings much wisdom and knowledge to the Commission obtained through his vast experiences. He is a graduate of Elba High School and Auburn University. Commissioner Stephens enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and served as a Pilot-Captain overseas for 15th Combat. He is currently President of the Southeast Alabama Regional Planning and Development the Board.

Commissioner Stephens is married to Martha Frances and they have one grandson. The Stephens are members of First Baptist Church in Elba.

Frank "AL" Britt

Al Britt

Commissioner Britt was elected in November 2008. He entered this arena very knowledgeable about county government, the agricultural industry, and financial matters.

He is a lifelong farmer and resident of Coffee County who graduated from Enterprise High School and Enterprise State Junior College.

He is married to Diane and they have five children and five grandchildren.He loves spending time with his family and when time permits, he loves to fish.

The Britts are members of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Enterprise, where he serves on the Board of Trustees and Vice President of the Coffee County Cooperative.

Bernest Brooks

Bernest Brooks

Commissioner Brooks has served as District 5 Commissioner since 1992. Mr. Brooks has proven to be a valuable asset to the Coffee County Commission, offering the expertise obtained from his years of government affiliations and from his educational background.

Commissioner Brooks has a Master’s Degree in Urban Planning from Alabama A & M University in Huntsville and a B.S. from Alabama State University, Montgomery.  He has attended other colleges and universities throughout the United States and obtained various certifications and degrees.

Commissioner Brooks is a farmer, real estate proprietor, and a long time resident of Enterprise.  He is also a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. 

Commissioner Brooks is married to Beatrice and they have four children and three grandchildren. When time permits, he enjoys fishing, hunting, and playing golf.

The Brookses presently attend Bethany Baptist Church, and he is an active member in the Alabama Democratic Conference, NAACP, Coffee County Democratic Executive Committee, and Phi Beta Sigma.

Jim Thompson

Jim Thompson

Commissioner Jim Thompson was elected in November 2000 as the youngest member of the Commission and still holds that title. In spite of his youth, he has proven himself fully capable of adhering to the needs of the citizens of his district. Commissioner Thompson is a 1984 graduate of Enterprise High School and a 1990 graduate of Auburn University with a B.S. in Buisness Administration. He is a member of the Alabama Trucking Association, a member of the Enterprise Quarterback Club, and an Enterprise Parks and Recreation coach.

Commissioner Thompson is married to Beverly, an English Teacher at Enterprise High School, and they have two childeren, Sid and Ele. He enjoys spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, water skiing, and doing yard work.

The Thompsons are members of First Baptist Church in Enterprise where he serves as a deacon.

Tom Grimsley

Tom Grimsley

Commissioner Grimsley has served as District 7 Commissioner since 1996. He graduated from Enterprise High School, attended Troy State University, and is a graduate of Alabama School of Aviation.  During his tenure, Commissioner Grimsley has represented Coffee County on several boards, such as the Family Service Center Board, the Farmers Cooperative Board, CP&YRWA, and the Enterprise Chamber of Commerce.

Commissioner Grimsley is married to Judy and they have two children.  The Grimsleys are members of First Baptist Church in Enterprise.

In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family, fishing, and hunting.
